Zain donates to Dakpema Education Fund

Tamale, Oct 25, GNA - Zain Communications Network, a mobile telecommunications Company, has donated GHc 2,500.00 to the Dakpema Education Fund.

The Company also donated some of its products to the Dakpema Traditional Council.

The Dakpema Education Fund is an initiative of the Dakpema, (Chief of Tamale) to support brilliant but needy students to pursue their educational endeavours.

Mr. Philip Sowah, Country Director of Zain Communications, said the donation formed part of the Company's "Build Our Nation Programme", which was a vital part of its corporate social responsibility programme. He said one of the core objectives of the Company was to create a sense of belonging with the people it served, adding that it was as a result of this that, they had adopted a grassroots approach to developing education, health, arts and culture.

He said Zain had recently added its ground breaking borderless, "one network' service to the "wonderful world" it had already created for its subscribers.

The service, which was in line with Zain's commitment to provide superior yet affordable services to its customers, would also offer Ghanaians the opportunity to communicate to the rest of Africa and the Middle East at local rates.

He said Zain customers who would be performing the Hajj this year would have the opportunity of making calls from Saudi Arabia to Ghana, adding that the pilgrims would also get the chance of sending text messages at local rates and receive incoming calls free of charge. Na Mohammed Alhassan Dawuni, the Dakpema, stressed the importance of education and said it was for this reason that he established the fund. He said he, however, realise that there could be no meaningful education in an environment where there was no peace so he initiated a peace process to bring the youth of Tamale together to promote peace. He commended Zain for its commitment to the development of education in the country and appealed to other organisations to emulate it. 25 Oct. 2009
