Zongo women want Sarpong as KMA Chief Executive

Kumasi, March 2, GNA - The Kumasi Women's Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Zongo community has said it was not true that they were against the nomination of Mr Samuel Sarpong of the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) as the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE). They said; "we know Mr Sarpong very much as a true member of the NDC and his capabilities and as such have no problem working with him if he is nominated and subsequently appointed as MCE by the KMA".

Speaking to the media after an emergency meeting of the wing in Kumasi on Sunday, Hajia Ashietu Ibrahim, spokesperson for the group, said so far as the wing was concerned the SFO Zonal director for Ashanti was qualified to be given the nod as MCE. The women said Kumasi was strategically located in the country and that it needed a humble, discipline, transparent and hard working person like Mr Sarpong to handle its day-to-day affairs. They cautioned residents of Zongo communities, especially NDC members to desist from unnecessary protests against nomination of people appointed to high offices in the Ashanti Region since that had the potential of depriving competent people of handling affairs of the Region, especially Kumasi.

In a related development, the youth in the Zongo communities in Kumasi has dissociated themselves from a recent demonstration staged by some youth against the consideration of Mr Sarpong as MCE.
