AME Zion Bishop commends Ghanaians

The Right Reverend Dr Seth Lartey, Presiding Bishop of Western African Episcopal District of the AME Zion Church, has commended Ghanaians for telling the world they understand party politics in a democracy.

He said Ghanaians demonstrated that by allowing the legal system to take its course in the 2012 election petition, which the Supreme Court was to rule on come Thursday August 29.

Rt. Rev. Lartey gave the commendation in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at the opening of the 106th Session, West Ghana Annual Conference on Wednesday at Winneba.

The Conference on the theme: “Building a Legacy with God for such a time like this” was attended by 84 delegates from Cape Coast, Akim Manso, Sekondi, Assin Fosu, Wassa Darmang, Akim Akroso and Winneba Districts, which forms the West Ghana branch of the Church.

It was aimed at receiving reports from the various districts on the state of the Church and the country as a whole, deliberate on them, in service training and workshops for the participants and formulate strategies to win more souls for the Christ.

Bishop Lartey said the patience Ghanaians had exhibited indicate that they really understand party politics and hoped they would continue to do all that they could to maintain it for the sustenance of peace and stability in the country.

“Countries in the sub region are looking on you; ensure to accept the verdict of the Supreme Court since the future of the country lies on you,” he told the nation.

He also commended media practitioners for the display of professionalism in carrying out their duties, which he said had also contributed to the peace of the country.

Rt. Rev Dr Lartey announced that plans were far advanced for the AME Church to upgrade to the status of a hospital, a clinic at Afrancho, in Ashanti Region.

He said as a Church, there is the need to partner the government in all its endeavors, in respect of that, they had put up a university to help train teachers, nurses and also workers of God.

In a sermon delivered by Rev. Isaac Francis Gyebi Garbah, Presiding Elder of Akim Akroso on the theme for conference, he urged Ghanaians to walk in integrity to build a legacy with God.
