Aburi May 31, GNA - The Akuapem Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has presented a brand new Kia Sorrento cross country vehicle to the Headmistress of the Aburi Girls Senior High School (SHS) to facilitate her work.
The presbytery also presented a lap top computer to the headmistress, Ms Rosemond Bampoe, for proper record keeping. Making the presentation at the induction ceremony of Ms Bampo, as the new Headmistress of the school, at Aburi, on Sunday, the Chairperson for the Akuapem Presbytery, Reverend Dr Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, said the gesture was part of the Presbytery's five- year development plan to ensure that all heads of SHS within the presbytery got vehicles. He said the Presbytery, as part of its efforts to solve accommodation problems in the schools, would put up dormitories in all the SHS for both boys and girls. The induction service attracted people from all walks of life, including Ministers of State, Members of Parliament (MPs) the Clergy, Educationists, friends, family members and students. In a sermon, Rev Dr Mante said in 1945, the Education Committee of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana made a special request to the Basel Mission and the Scottish Mission to consider the possibility of establishing a girl's secondary school, which would enhance further the education of girls.
He said it was suggested that Aburi should attempt such a project with the understanding that secondary and teacher training classes should be held together for the first two years at the training college site and then separated for their respective specific curricula.
He said the school after more than 60 years of its establishment produced distinguished personalities, who were occupying higher positions in society across the globe and urged the new headmistress to maintain the standard.
Ms Bampo, in an address, paid tribute to the founding fathers of the school and mentioned the names of the past five headmistresses, which include Miss Elsie McKillican, Miss Irene M. Anderson, Dr (Mrs) Joyce Assibey, Mrs Grace J. Ansa-Otu and Mrs Sylvia Asempa for making the school a centre of excellence.
She said despite the positive rating of the school, they would not rest on their oars and would continue to work hard to ensure that the school becomes the best on the Africa continent. Ms Bampo assured that she would build upon what her predecessors left and ensure that the school continues to be a 93school of choice". She thanked the Akuapem Presbytery and the Presbyterian Church of Ghana for their consistent support to the school over the years. Ms Bampo, former Headmistress of Ghana Senior High School in Koforidua, holds a Masters Degree in Educational Management from the University of Cape Coast. 31 May 11
