Winneba (C/R), Nov. 25, GNA- The former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, has warned women about the end-time false pastors and prophets to avoid violence and human rights abuse.
She said these pastors had taken undue advantage of the women who went to churches and prayer camps to look for miracles and resulted in the dangerous violence committed against them.
Nana Konadu said these when she addressed the launching of campaign on violence against women at Winneba in the Effutu Municipality of the Central Region.
The former First Lady noted that the false pastors and prophets capitalized on current numerous financial and marriage problems facing women and subjected them into all sorts of molestation.
The theme for this year's commemoration was" Commit, Act, Demand' We can end Violence Against Women".
She stated that the women should be able to learn to pray for themselves instead of trooping to the various camps and churches of these pastors and prophets.
Nana Konadu who is also the President of 31st December Women Movement assured Ghanaian women that the movement would continue to advocate for the protection and rights of women at all time. She expressed concern about the lukewarm attitudes on the parts of some judges who failed to give the needed punishment to men who committed violence against women.
Nana Konadu called on the Queen Mothers Association to impress upon the government and relevant organizations to ensure that Domestic Violence Act 2007 (Act 732) among others work were implemented to the letter. Nana Ama Amissah, III, Queen mother of Mankessim urged school girls to report all forms of violence especially those of sexual abuse to the police and other security agencies to enhance their safety. She charged fellow queen mothers to intensify their educational campaign on violence against women and called on the financial institutions and donor agencies to assist the Association champion to fight cause of womanhood. 25 Nov.09
