As part of the agenda to encourage teachers, the education directorate of Lower Manya Krobo held the Teacher Prize Awards in the Municipality on Tuesday, 23rd July 2024.
The aim of the program, as stated by the Municipal Education Director, Mr. Samuel Kwesi Tettey, was to motivate teachers to strive for excellence and take the lead in shaping future leaders.
The Directorate held the second edition of the Teacher Prize Awards on Saturday to celebrate and honor exceptional teachers in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality at Lasi park. The event included a gathering of Chiefs, teachers, students, and other significant dignitaries.
This year’s ceremony was themed, “Anything worth doing is worth appreciating,” to highlight the crucial role of education and the impact teachers have on the world.
A total of 54 teachers from six categories, including KG, JHS, SHS, rural teachers, education office staff, teachers in administration, non-teaching staff, special awards, and participatory awards, were recognized and awarded on the day.
First-position winners received laptop computers, second-position winners got 32” LED TV sets, while third and fourth-prize winners received table-top fridges and gas burners, respectively. All recipients also received certificates and were decorated with a sash.
The overall best teacher received a laptop computer and a plaque.
The Municipal Director of Education emphasized the importance of recognizing and motivating teachers due to the challenges they face in their roles. He highlighted the significant improvement in academic performance in the municipality, attributing it to interventions such as capacity building workshops for headteachers.
The Guest Speaker, Professor Samuel Amponsah, stressed the importance of
appreciating teachers and other education workers, emphasizing the role of education in societal development.
He cited global initiatives like the Millennium Development Goals and Sustainable Development Goals that prioritize education as a key driver of progress.
A teacher from the Akuse Methodist Senior High School expressed gratitude for the recognition and encouraged fellow teachers to strive for excellence. The Municipal Chief Executive promised to present a car to next year’s best teacher if successful in his parliamentary bid.
The NDC Constituency Chairman commended teachers for their dedication and commitment to education, acknowledging their impact on future generations.
He praised the winners for their excellence and ability to inspire others.
