The Catholic archdiocese of Accra has launched the World Youth Day (WYD) celebration ahead of the official WYD festivity to take place in Krakow, Poland from July 25 to 31, 2016.
The launch which took place in the various deaneries in Accra formed part of interesting activities planned by the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) in connection with the Krakow WYD celebration.
The theme for the celebration; “Mathew 5:7; Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy”, is in connection with the Jubilee Year of Mercy.
Announced by the Holy Father Pope Francis on his official visit to Krakow in Poland last year, the theme obliges Catholics worldwide to show mercy to the poor, vulnerable and those who need mercy.
The launch took place at selected venues in Accra with interesting activities and performances from the youth.
At the Kaneshie Deanery which had its celebration at the St. George Catholic Church in Tesano, some of the sessions and activities were; a float,teachings on Vocation and Religious life, relationship and peer life, basic first Aid, career guidance, among others.
The Kpehe Deanery at St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Obom had spectacular performances like a drama on the crucifixion of Christ and other fun games.
Madina and the Osu- Mamprobi Deaneries also had their celebration in grand styles at their respective venues.
The six-day World Youth Day pilgrimage and celebration is set to take place in Krakow, Poland from July 25 to 31, 2016 as announced by Pope Francis, the Holy Father of the Catholic Church.
