Christian Council elects Reverend Asante as Chairman

Accra, June 17, GNA - The Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana, has been elected Chairman of Christian Council of Ghana (CCG).

He was elected at the Council's annual general meeting held on Wednesday, April 21.

A statement issued in Accra on Thursday and signed by The Reverend Dr Fred Deegbe, General Secretary of the Council, said The Rev. Asante was the 42nd Chairman of the Council established in 1929.

He succeeded The Right-Reverend Dr Yaw Frimpong-Manso, Moderator of General Assembly of Presbyterian Church of Ghana.

The statement said The Rev. Asante had served in various capacities in some Ecumenical bodies as a Theological Consultant, Fellowship of Christian Council, Chairman of Advisory Committee, Society Division, and member of the Advisory Committee on Finance and Development in West Africa from 1996 to 1999.

He also served as a member of the Judicial Council of Ghana from 2002-2009, member of Ejura-Sekyedumasi District Assembly, 2006-2009. The Rev. Asante joined Trinity Theological Seminary in 1999-2009 as Lecturer, Vice-Principal, Academic Dean and President.

He was an Adjunct Lecturer at Christian Service University College i n 1987-1994 and Head of Department of Religious Studies, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi in 2006-2009.
