Christians urged to live up to their principles

Koforidua, Aug 1, GNA - Christians have been urged to live up to the very core of Christian principles, to help address the problems of moral decadence that had engulfed the youth of today.

Ms Ophelia Koomson, Birim Central Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), gave the advice when she addressed the 23rd Diocesan Conference of the Christ's Little Band of the Methodist Church-Ghana, at Akyem Oda on Sunday.

She urged members of the association to ensure that they exhibited quality leadership to curb indiscipline, drug abuse, teenage pregnancy and all forms of social vices, which could mar their future, especially the youth who are the future leaders of Ghana.

Ms Koomson indicated that "Our failure to do this means that, Ghana will face the tragedy of quality leadership tomorrow".

She charged Christians to live lives worthy of emulation to enable them convince others to acknowledge Jesus Christ as such, adding, "We cannot call ourselves Christians and behave contrary".

Ms Koomson urged them to interact with traditional authorities; civil societies and the government on continuous basis, to enable them chart a path of progress and development.

She commended the Methodist Church in general on its contributions in education, health and the socio-economic sectors of the country, and encouraged it to continue to contribute its quota to make the "Better Ghana Agenda" a reality.

Ms Koomson indicated that the Government alone could not solve all the problems of the country, and appealed to each and everyone to contribute his or her quota towards national development.

She said the government had fulfilled most of the promises it made to Ghanaians such as the provision of free exercise books to all basic public schools, increase the capitation grant, expand the school feeding programme and restructure the National Health Insurance Scheme and the National Youth Employment Programme among others.

The MCE expressed her gratitude to the religious bodies in the area for their cordial relations with the assembly, and urged them to keep it up to help promote development in the municipality.

The Conference was on the theme, "Jesus the High Priest who must be worshipped'.
