Twifo-Hemang (CR), Sept. 4, GNA - The Most Reverend Mathias Kobina Nketsiah, Metropolitan Catholic Archbishop of Cape Coast, has called on Christians not to only criticize priests and men of God, but rather pray for them to enhance their holiness.
He said unconstructive criticisms of priests and men of God did not bring honour to the Church but rather confusion, disunity and loss of faith among the faithful.
Archbishop Nketsiah said this when he ordained four catholic priests at the St Anthony’s Parish in Twifo-Hemang in the Central Region on Saturday.
The four Reverend Fathers, Joseph Aseidu, Cyril Arthur, Francis Fynn and Stephen Wireku, who are all from the archdioceses of Cape Coast, successfully underwent a seven-year priestly training at the St Peter’s Major Seminary at Pedu a suburb of cape Coast.
He told them to always recognize their weakness and brokenness in order to strive to pursue holiness all the time, adding that they were being ordained at the time when society was battling with all kinds of temptations and vices such as visa fraud, cyber crime, sodomy and homosexuality.
Archbishop Nketsiah urged them to totally dedicate themselves to the work of God and that self aggrandizement should not be part of their priestly life.
He noted that seeking material things would only act as obstacles that would prevent them from embracing the holiness that was required of them and urged them to let humility, loyalty and piety be their watch words.
He said they should never laud it over their parishioners, stressing that their priestly status was an unmerited honour, which they should not boast of.
The Archbishop called on Catholics to continue to pray for the Church and priests, adding that it was only prayers that could help to address most of the spiritual and physical problems that had saddled most churches.
Reverend Fr. Fynn on behalf of the newly ordained priests thanked the parishioners for their support and urged them to continue to pray for the Church and the priests.
He gave the assurance that they would perform their duties effectively and efficiently.
