Tarkwa (W/R), Dec 16, GNA - The Church of Pentecost, University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) Worship Centre on Monday dedicated a GH¢129.8 church building to God at a ceremony at Tarkwa yesterday. The building has a 700-seat auditorium, a Pastor's office, conference room, store and lavatories.
Mr George Mireku Duker, Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Chief Executive urged the people not to be downhearted even in the face of troubles but endeavour to achieve targets set by the church. He paid glowing tribute to pastors for fasting and praying to sustain the peace the nation was enjoying.
Mr Duker said it was not every country that enjoyed peace and pleaded with the people not to lead lifestyles that would endanger the peace.
Pastor Gidoen Obeng Darko Debra of the Wassa-Nsuta District who preached the sermon on the theme; "The Desire To Do Something For God," said though God prevented David to build a church, he bought the land upon which Solomon built a church.
He said: "People should wholeheartedly offer services to God and they will enjoy the blessings thereof".
The Presiding Elder Isaac Asumadu-Boateng gave the background of the church and said the UMaT Worship Centre was inaugurated on Wednesday, August 9, 1989 by the then District Pastor, J. K. Arthur with 42 members.
