Ghana Muslims Secretariat kicks against government sponsorship of Christian pilgrims

The Ghana Muslims Secretariat has kicked against government plans by government to sponsor Christian’s pilgrimage as claimed it is being done for Muslims in the country.

“The argument that government should sponsor Christians pilgrims is unnecessary and needless”, first Vice Chairman of the Ghana Muslims Secretariat, Sheikh Haruna Appau said.

According to him, successive governments have never financed Muslims in the country embarking on their annual pilgrimage to Mecca as speculated by section of the public.

“Let me state it clear that Government of Ghana does not finance Muslims pilgrimage. The individuals do it themselves. Government only facilitates the trip” he disclosed on Kumasi-based Nhyria FM.

“The government only forms Hajj Board headed by government officials to facilitate it so that the trip maybe successful anyway. Sometimes the government removes qualified people who have paid their monies and replace their party people for the trip”

The Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs has come under criticisms from the public over plans to sponsor Christians to also embark on pilgrimage to Israel and other destinations.

But according to some Christians, no part in the Bible demands that Christians should embark on trips to any part of the world and that could be done in one’s own accord.
