ICGC inaugurates water project in Ga West Municipality

Accra, Oct. 19, GNA - The International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), on Monday reiterated its pledge to spiritual and social transformation of people at the individual, personal, community and national levels.

"We shall therefore continue to reach out to communities and people with the love of Lord Jesus Christ through social development, intervention programmes and activities within the framework of existing institutional arrangement," Dr. Mensa Otabil, General Overseer of ICGC, said at the inauguration of the Church's Clean Water Project at Onyaben in the Ga West Municipality in the Greater Accra Region. In a speech read on his behalf, Dr Otabil the programme was part of the church's social responsibility to provide clean water to selected deprived communities.

The project included the provision of 20 boreholes fitted with hand-pumps, estimated at GH¢200,000 to serve over 12,000 inhabitants in 15 selected communities in the country. So far 12 out of the 20 boreholes had been completed for some communities estimated at GH¢120,000 with eight more to be constructed at GH¢80,000.

Other beneficiary communities are Ayikai Doblo, Jeda, Achiaman, Atsiato, Ayawaso and Ablorman all in the Ga West Minicipality Dr Otabil noted that the project expected to be completed before the Church's 26th anniversary in February 2010 was its contribution to eliminate some of the drudgery women and children undergo in search of potable water.

He commended the ICGC Youth - Christ Temple that raised funds to construct a borehole within the municipality and urged the beneficiary communities to take good care of the facility. Nii Armah Tackie, Ga West Municipal Chief Executive, commended the Church for the provision of social amenities and noted that the project would enhance the living standards of the communities around Onyaben and said government would provide potable water to other communities.
