The Methodist Church of Ghana on Thursday said it has taken steps to embark on a rigorous evangelization campaign to teach sound Christian doctrines in the country to improve morality.
It will focus on explaining the Holy Bible and spiritual transformation to help individuals to become decent, good, righteous and morally upright citizens for it to trickle down to the society.
The campaign is also aimed at sharing the word of God and encouraging congregants to emulate the exemplary life of Jesus instead of placing much emphasis on wealth and prosperity.
Reverend Professor Joseph M. Y. Edusa-Eyision, Bishop of the Northern Accra Diocese of the Methodist Church, said this at the median Annual Synod 2019 held in Accra.
He said as part of the Church’s plan they would carry out evangelization from basic education level to the tertiary level; stating that they would also reach out to people in the peri-urban communities and the less privileged, especially, streets children.
Rev Prof. Edusa-Eyision said: “The great commission of Jesus Christ mandates all the Church and Christians to spread the word of God to all corners of the world… As leaders of the Church, we have to descend from the pulpit to the communities to share the Holy Scriptures with others.
“We need to demonstrate to people that faith in Jesus Christ can lead people to live a life of devotion, purity, and kindness. This will provide a strong foundation on which we can build our society’s moral structure”.
He expressed deep concern over the “breakdown of morals” in the society and called on Christian leaders, as well as, elders in the society to rise against the worrying impediment.
The growing immorality, according to Rev Prof. Edusa-Eyision, if not checked and addressed early, could cause the nation to lose its cherished and enviable cultural values.
He urged Christians to influence the world positively through their actions and refrain from engaging in acts that did not glorify the name of Jesus Christ.
