Enchi (W/R) April 21, GNA- The twentieth Western Presbytery Conference was opened at Enchi in the Western Region on Friday, with a call on politicians to tolerate one another to preserve the peace prevailing in the country.
This is because any breech of peace would affect all Ghanaians irrespective of their political affiliation or social standing. Reverend William Nkrumah Boahen Appiah, the Western Presbytery Chairperson, made the call when opening the five day Conference at under the theme: "go ye therefore and make disciples of all nations." He noted that the country was praised as one of the emerging economies in Africa South of the Sahara and its democracy though fledging was being acclaimed as one of the leading in Africa. Rev. Appiah, therefore, appealed to Ghanaians to work harder to sustain and improve upon these achievements.
He observed that the current load shedding in electricity supply, the occurrence of armed robbery, cocaine cases, profanity in the music industry and the unbridled desire for wealth and unemployment were problems facing the country.
He therefore, called on the people to soberly reflect on the issues, self examine themselves, work harder and pray and fast for divine intervention.
Mr. Kingsley Ofori-Asante, Aowin Suaman District Chief Executive, commended the Presbyterian Church of Ghana for its immense contribution to the socio-economic and political development of the nation. He said the Church played a pioneering role in promoting education, health, agriculture and community development in the country, which 'I believe other missionaries and Churches that followed, positively adopted."
Mr. Ofori-Asante urged the Church and the State to co-exist and to act as partners in development to promote wellbeing of the citizenry. He urged the Church and other religious bodies to use their pulpits and other avenues to educate their congregation on the need to register with the District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme. Mr. Ofori-Asante also appealed to religious bodies to assist the people practice to practice good sanitation to avoid contracting diseases, adding, "the culture of cleanliness and living in a clean environment must really be inculcated in the people". He called on the religious bodies to support the educational reforms adding that education formed the foundation for the development of every country.
