Former President Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings leaves Accra on Monday for Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso to deliver the keynote address at the ongoing World Congress of the International Catholic Union of the Press (UCIP).
The former President will be speaking on the topic, ³How to ensure the institution of good governance in our societies² during the official opening ceremony on Tuesday September 14.
Flt Lt Rawlings agreed to address the conference when a delegation of UCIP led by President of UCIP Burkina Faso; Alexandre Le Grand Rouamba formerly extended an invitation to him a fortnight ago at Tefle in the Volta Region.
Mr. Rouamba said, ³Your reputation and experience will inspire thousands of journalists and other media professionals who will attend the conference.²
The UCIP delegation was grateful the President Rawlings had agreed to address the conference and presented him with conference information and paraphernalia.
The seven-day conference which is taking place from 12 to 19 September will be hosting over a thousand participants from across the world and will be under the theme: ³Media at the Service of Justice, Peace and Good Governance in a World of Inequalities and Poverty.
Other key participants expected to speak at the Congress will be Burkinabe President, Blaise Compoare and Malian President Amadou Toumani Toure as well as representatives from the Vatican.
UCIP is the world forum of Catholic professionals and institutions in secular and religious media.
