Christians in Ghana join counterparts throughout the world to celebrate Good Friday

Accra, April 10, GNA - Christians in Ghana on Friday joined their counterparts throughout the world to celebrate Good Friday, the crucifixion of Jesus Christ about 2000 years ago. Various Christian congregations are marking the day with church services, conventions, crusades and retreats in remembrance of the Saviour, whose redemptive work restored lost humanity to its rightful place in Heaven.

Church halls were filled to capacity with regular and occasional worshippers, who sang sorrowful songs and listened to sermons that emphasised need for Christ to go through pain to redeem man. The seven statements Christ made while on the cross formed the basis of some of the sermons.

Preaching the sermon at the Ghana Police Church, near the Licensing Office in Accra, the Very Reverend Dr J.M. Edusa-Eyison of the Church urged Christians to learn to forgive those who wronged them. He said even while in pain and at the point death Christ asked God to forgive those who were crucifying him on Mount Moriah, where Abraham had earlier on wanted to sacrifice Isaac. There is some archaeological evidence to suppose that the place of the crucifixion of Jesus was at the summit of Mt. Moriah, probably near the present-day Damascus Gate and the Garden Tomb, which would of course be a literal fulfilment of Abraham's offering of Isaac when God said, "On the mount of the Lord it [the final offering for sin] will be provided". 10 April 09
