Most Reverend Anthony Adanuty, Catholic Bishop of the Keta/Akatsi Diocese at the weekend exhorted Ghanaians, and especially citizens of the North Dayi District, to uphold the God-factor heightening diligence and hard work to achieve its developmental protocols and aspirations.
He said these virtues moulded the conscience of those who made giant strides and left positive footprints in their paths.
Bishop Adanuty gave the exhortation at a non-denominational thanksgiving service to commemorate the creation of the North Dayi District some 18 months ago.
He said attitudinal change and good etiquette to work and think in a virtuous manner, eliminate indiscipline, including bribery and corruptible tendencies, hold the key for accelerated development.
Most Reverend Adanuty urged leadership to espouse the principles of unity, respect for subordinates and subjects to earn equal or greater reciprocity for national cohesion and nation-building.
He urged traditional authorities to commence dialogue with stakeholders to find solutions to dwindling interests in communal spiritedness of the youth as a measure to revive the fortitude of self-help attitudes that flourished in times of old.
Bishop Adanuty entreated all to render their tax obligations as was done in Biblical era in support of development projects.
Mr Francis Ganyaglo, Deputy Volta Regional Minister, urged the people, including chiefs, to forge fruitful relationships, anchored on development of their areas.
He said government’s development plans for the region remained unwavering, and appealed to all and sundry to exercise utmost restraint as these strategies are translated into physical reality.
Mr George Loh, Member of Parliament for North Dayi, urged chiefs to use their authority guaranteed by law to build the necessary linkages to transform society, as well as champion development with collaboration with management of district assemblies.
He pledged to set-aside GHC 10,000 of his MP’s Common Fund to finance the education of needy but brilliant students in the area.
Mr Stephen K. Timinca, Chief Executive of North Dayi, whose administration has prioritized education drew a bleak relationship between decreasing examination results in the face of increasing levels in infrastructure.
For a strategy, he said final year students of Junior High Schools in the district would be tutored during vacations while classrooms would be connected to the national grid in order that students could study in the evenings.
Mr Timinca said street naming and house address system projects, leveraging the collection of property rates and the establishment of a district think-tank is high on its developmental agenda.
Commodore (RTD) Steve Obimpeh, a Presidential Staffer and former Minister, Ms Akua Sena Dansua, Ambassador-designate and former Member of Parliament, and Mr Francis Ganyaglo, former DCE, were honoured and presented with citations for their meritorious service to duty of work, unalloyed dedication to duty and roles in the creation of the North Dayi District.
Paramount Chiefs from the nine communities constituting the district or their representatives graced the colourful event constituting the district.
