Addo-Kufuor takes over from Francis?

According to "The Statesman" newspaper, Dr Kwame Addo-Kufuor, who resigned to contest in the 17 man race for the NPP flagbearership, and was last week nominated for as interior minister, has been given additional responsibility for the National Security Ministry, following the departure of Francis Poku about four months ago.

Until the appointment of Francis Poku as Minister for National Security, no such ministry existed, although the office of National Security Coordinator was and still is in existence, currently occupied by Dr Ghartey Amoo.

Dr Addo-Kufuor has a long association with security issues, having served in both of President Kufuor’s two terms as Minister of Defence and one time acting Interior Minister, both positions requiring the occupant to be a member of the National Security Council. He is also head of security for the NPP’s 2008 campaign team.

The MP for Manhyia is expected to work to bring closure to the little pockets of strife in the country. He is also expected to fine tune a national security plan to ensure violence free elections in December.
