Intel picked up by the Daily Post has revealed that President Akufo-Addo has ordered at a very high cost to the state a fleet of luxury cars for use by him and members of his government.
The vehicles include four 2017 Mercedes Benz S-CLASS saloon cars which will be for his personal use. It is to justify this purchase and to prepare the minds of Ghanaians for it that the Administration has been trying to pretend vehicles are not available for use by members of the new government because persons linked to the former NDC government have taken and hiding them.
In pursuit of this agenda, the NPP government has sponsored goons to invade the homes of persons linked to the former government under the guise of looking for stolen government vehicles. Indeed, in some cases, they have seized the private vehicles of some known NDC persons only to return them later. To further lend credence to their claim, the Presidency released a statement a few days ago claiming it had formed a Task Force to retrieve state vehicles and other state properties in the possession of persons linked to the NDC government.
Yesterday, to further prepare the minds of Ghanaians for the purchase of the luxurious vehicles, the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, got himself unto NEAT FM'S morning show where he lied that over 200 state vehicles are missing as a result of which President Akufo-Addo has been compelled to be using a 2007 Mercedes Benz.
This paper's investigations yesterday exposed the lie; 200 official cars cannot be missing when the Assets Committee and the Logistics Committee of the new government were given all details and a total of not less than 137 vehicles handed over to the Presidential Team. The 137 cross country and saloon cars did not include the many Toyota Avalon and Chrysler cars at the State Protocol Department which Ghanaians see some officials of the NPP drive across town these days at top speed sometimes with sirens blaring.
The Daily Post's enquiries revealed that the 137 vehicles that were handed over included various types of cross country vehicles and saloon cars, including two armoured cross country vehicles and two armoured saloon cars, one of which is the BMW.
There were also Mercedes Benz cars from the VP's fleet. That Akufo-Addo has refused to use these vehicles, choosing to use a 2007 Mercedes Benz belonging to the state is his choice. The issue is the whereabouts of all these vehicles which were released by Logistics officers of the NPP government to party official and supporters on January 08, 2017 without any details taken, to be driven to Kyebi for the continuation of the inauguration booze and eat. Have they been able to retrieve these vehicles?
As await the arrival of the plush vehicles ordered by President Akufo-Addo, more noise and spurious claims of NDC persons keeping government vehicles are going to be made to prepare Ghanaians' minds for the inevitable.
