The National Democratic Congress yesterday held an emergency meeting to discuss the rumours that is filtering round that its national women's organizer, Miss Ama Benyiwah Doe is flirting with the NPP.
An NDC insider, who disclosed this development to the ADM, said the party needed to hold the meeting to listen to Benyiwa Doe's side of the story.
"This same thing happened to Josiah Aryeh and affected us very well in the 2004 elections, so we have decided to dig deep to find out the truth", the insider said.
Miss Beyiwah-Doe who has been very critical of the NPP government is alleged to be taking money from some members of NPP. She has also been cited as pleading with some of the members to introduce her to the President.
Though Miss Beyiwah-Doe has vehemently denied these allegations, the NDC is said to be unhappy with the current trend and may suspend their national women organizer for investigations to be carried into those allegations.
"She has always shown loyalty to the party, but that does not mean we should not investigate this matter".
At the meeting member were said to be divided, as some were calling for an investigative committee while others said it was mere propaganda by the NPP to tarnish the image of their party.
Party members are said to be very worried about this trend especially when so many of its leading members have resigned or in the process of resigning from the party. "It always starts like rumours and it becomes real This time we are very alert", the insider said.
NDC's General Secretary, Asiedu Nketiah who spoke to ADM, said the matter should be treated as a mere allegation.
Asiedu Nketiah who is popularly known as 'General Mosquito' was very hysterical when ADM called him.
"This is historic; a reporter from ADM wants to talk to an NDC member. By the way let's treat this matter as a mere allegation and come to our press conference tomorrow", he said. "When there is cocaine cases everywhere only you want to do this story", he added.
Though he did not say what the press conference is for, the ADM source reveals that the press conference is to provide a response to the comments President Kufuor made about the NDC party in connection with the cocaine case.
