Cocaine rains from Ghana's Airspace?

As all attention is focused on the high seas and the country's borders as the entry points for cocaine and other narcotic drugs, Public Agenda is alerting the security agencies that Ghana’s airspace is possibly being used as a new channel for drug trafficking.

Intelligence reports suggest that in some countries cocaine is easily dropped from the air and picked up at the dark of night using the Global Positioning Systems (GPS) technology, which can digitally track and locate the tagged parachuted parcels.

The possible use of sovereign airspace suggests the involvement of the ‘Russian mafia’ and the introduction of new hard-line ways of transporting cocaine from submarines to airdrops.

The fear is that the trick could be used to dribble pass security in Ghana unless our security agencies mount close surveillance on the country’s airspace. As the heat is on to unearth the truth of the cocaine bust-up, many Ghanaians are probably not aware of the intricacies of the dealings that have been going on between the Police and the drug cartel. In the national interest, this newspaper wishes to draw the attention of the authorities to the following pertinent questions and issues.

Could it be that some cash was also picked up with the cocaine at the East Legon residence of Vasquez and was undeclared by the Police? How many Ghanaians are aware of the battle for cocaine cases among lawyers in the country and the complicity of some judges?

This newspaper has learnt that the Tabiri-Cocaine-Reshuffled Lawyers have grown very bitter about their loss of the cocaine-suit fortunes and are doing everything to bring Tabiri and other high-ranking police officers that ditched them to book.

Could it be that there are already Venezuelans in Togo and La Cote d’Ivoire trying to get into Ghana to accomplish the unfinished business of Joel and his capo Vasquez. Do we have knowledge of the Ghanaian drug dealers in Venezuela who linked Vasquez to Asibi and other close (Spanish-speaking) allies at Nima and other areas?

Did the translators for Joel and Catillo really translate what they said or wrote what the Police wanted written as their statements? Which Police officers have been continuing the work of Vasquez and his subordinates since they were apprehended?

If Asibi just stopped Tabiri and his cortege without Tabiri knowing her previously, how did she instantly produce $50,000.00 as consultation fees for the Tabiri’s first set of choice lawyers? How come Tabiri always knew when Asibi et al had money? Why was it that it was Tabiri who was telling lawyers how much to charge Joel, especially the $50,000 consultation and $3 million as lawyers’ fees? How come the first set of lawyers was dropped without the knowledge of Joel? Was there any kickback that had been promised and not delivered?

Our information is that Joel did not even know at a point which lawyer was representing him because someone was making decisions from the top. How come lawyers initially representing Joel did not even bother to get a translator to facilitate communications with their client even after the $50,000 consultation fees were paid…was that why they were fired?

It is no longer a secret that security agents at KIA, immigration officials and cargo handlers are now couriers for drug pushers. The few well meaning security personnel who want to salvage whatever is left of Ghana’s image should beware of paint buckets and powder arriving and leaving the airport and other entry points. The fact is that, the scanning machines do not seem to detect cocaine concealed in thick paint and powder. Does this ring a bell?
