The African Standard Magazine is calling on the Transparency International, the World Bank and the Government of Brazil to investigate the circumstances in which 30 million dollars have found their way mysteriously into bank accounts in Switzerland from a transaction by the Government of Ghana to buy 5 Aircraft including an Executive Jet from Brazil.
We are of the opinion that this money which belongs to the Ghanaian people has found its way into the pockets of some Ghanaian politicians. The African Standard Magazine has received information that there 3 accounts in Switzerland belong to three members of the Ghanaian government and that the monies have been split 3 ways .We are are currently investigating to find out the identities behind these secret accounts in Switzerland.
There are two critical issues surrounding the purchase of the Aircraft and who stands to benefit financially from this deal. The first issue is the question as to why Ghana’s President , John Mills is alleged to have signed and agreed to this deal within 24 hours without consulting his aides or discussing it with his cabinet colleagues.
The second critical issue is the interference of the country’s Vice President at the Ghanaian Parliament House to lean on and influence members of parliament which according to analysts is a clear breach of separation of powers under the Ghanaian constitution.
The African Standard Magazine has been very critical of African leaders who fail to provide the basic necessities for their people and instead engage in wasteful and ridiculous spending of their countries resources. Recently the World Bank and the IMF had to cancel aid programs to Kenya because of politicians stashing away funds and embezzling the country’s finances . The British and American governments had cause to suspend financial assistance to Tanzania some years ago for spending over 200 million Dollars on military aircraft and a presidential jet while receiving aid to combat drought and food shortages. From 1977 to 2001 Ethiopia spent over 40% of its GDP on defence equipment while its people went hungry and was receiving aid to combat drought.
The African Standard is calling on the Brazilian and US government to block this poisonous Aircraft deal that seeks to destroy Ghana’s emergence as a success story especially with its discovery of oil and to help bring justice to the Ghanaian people by seeking to recover the 25million dollar pay off .
