Oil Discovered In Duayaw-Nkwanta

Duayaw-Nkwanta (B/A), July 14, GNA - A chief claimed on Friday that a former Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology discovered crude oil sometime ago at Mankran, a farming community near Duayaw-Nkwanta in the Tano North District.
Nana Boakye Tromo III, Paramount Chief of Duayaw-Nkwanta Traditional Council, said Dr R.P. Baffour made the discovery and appealed to the government to negotiate with oil companies to drill the oil.
He said this when Mr Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, Regional Minister and Nana Kwadwo Kwakye, the Deputy Regional Minister, called on him as part of a tour of the region.
Nana Boakye expressed the hope that government would take immediate steps to ascertain the truth of the discovery and begin exploitation. He appealed to the district assembly to help address the poor drainage system in Duayaw Nkwanta by tarring the streets to stop gully erosion in some parts of the town.
Mr Baffour-Awuah commended the traditional council on its efforts towards national development.
He said since the region was endowed with a lot of natural resources the government would do its best to exploit such resources to help develop the region and the country as a whole. The Regional Minister and his entourage later visited Yamfo, Bomaa and Tanoso.
