Accra, Jan 21. GNA - The British Council in Ghana has trained 22 youth in the Ashiedu Keteke Community as young football coaches through its programme dubbed "Community Sports Programme (CSP)". The young coaches who went through six months of training and were equipped with knowledge in basic football coaching are now empowered to organize daily training sessions for under-12 and 14 players in the community. The young coaches who range between the ages of 18 and 20 are also engaged in organizing regular eight-a- side gala for the children in the community.

Mr Andy Battomer the Project Manager of the British Council told the as "Young Coaches". He said the 22 coaches would be honored on January 31 at the City Engineers Department, James Town as a sign of recognition of their achievements. The British Council initiated the CSP in Ghana since June 2003 as a way of using the programme to train the youth in sporting activities and to take up responsible leadership positions in their communities. The Council also operates similar programmes in the Nima and Maamobi Communities where school children are taken through some leadership training skills by using sports as the focal point.
