Abedi confirms Nania withdrawal

Nania FC have withdrawn from the Glo8 preseason tournament.

The club confirmed to SuperSport.com that conditioning of his players was not up to scratch and he had no option but to pull the plug on their participation.

The competition, which would be a novelty this season, has already been hit with the high profile withdrawals of Ghana’s two biggest clubs, Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.

Fans were counting on Nania, owned by football legend Abedi Pele and are also current FA Cup champions, to give the event some credibility.

However Abedi says his boys were just not prepared.

“We have written to the relevant authorities to let them know our decision. The reasoning is that since my boys returned from their break, they haven’t hit a proper form for a competition like the Glo8.”

“Again of all the teams in this event we were the last to complete our league season because we are in the first division. All the others are in the Premier League and have rested enough. We need the rest too”

At the moment there are seven clubs available for kickoff of the tournament. League champions Berekum Chelsea join their predecessors Aduana Stars and AshantiGold as well as Medeama. The other teams, also Premier League sides, are Liberty Professionals, Heart of Lions, New Edubiase and Ebusua Dwarfs
