Afful denies making 'outrageous' demands from Esperance

Defender Harrison Afful has played down reports that he is making outrageous demands from Esperance.

The versatile Ghana international is in contract extension talks with the Tunisian giants as his current contract runs out at the end of June 2015.

He is reported to be demanding 1.5 million Dinars (US$ 806 798) from the Blood and Gold side before penning a new deal. The reports also claimed the Esperance board has decided against extending his stay due to the demand.

But the 28-year-old Ghana World Cup star, who has been at the club since 2009, has debunked the claims.

“I've been here for six years. I know the country's economic situation and I would never dare ask such a sum,” he told Footplus in Tunis.

Afful, who has won four Tunisian league titles, the Tunisia President’s Cup and the 2011 Caf Champions League with Esperance, was linked to several clubs in the summer transfer window due to his eye-catching performances at the Brazil World Cup.

A host of clubs across Europe and Asia are reported to be monitoring his situation.
