Afful rubbishes $800,000 Esperance contract reports

Ghana defender Harrison Afful has rubbished reports that he is demanding $800,000 before extending his contract with Tunisian giants Esperance.

The 28-year-old, who contract with the club expires in May, is being chased by several clubs in Europe following his excellent showing at the World Cup in June.

This has prompted Esperance to start talks with him about extending his expiring contract to prevent him from moving on a free transfer.

However reports in the Tunisian media claimed that the utility player’s demands has stalled the contract talks which Esperance are unable to afford and have decided not to extend his contract.

According to the reports, Afful is demanding about $800,000 before he extends his contract with the club he has played for since 2008.

But Afful says the reports are wide off the mark insisting he knows the financial situation of the club and won’t make such astronomical demands.

“I’ve been here for six years. I know the country’s economic situation and I would never dare ask such a sum,” he told Footplus in Tunis.

Afful has won four Tunisian league titles, the Tunisia President’s Cup and the 2011 Caf Champions League with Esperance.
