Afum hopes to make best of Meteors call up

Accra, March 22, GNA - Egypt-based striker Samuel Afum is hoping to make the best of his call up to the Black Meteors for the London 2012 Olympic Games qualifier against Sudan on Saturday at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra.

The 21-year old striker who stars for Smouha SC in the Egyptian Premier League is the only foreign-based player in the camp of the national Olympic team for the first leg encounter.

Afum was named as a replacement for Kumasi Asante Kotoko's striker Nathaniel Asamoah, who has been invited to feature for the Black Stars in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Congo in Brazzaville this weekend.

"This is the best chance for me to prove to all that I'm a good pl= ayer. This is a major opportunity and I would make the best of it," Afum told G= NA Sports in Accra on Tuesday.

With five goals to his credit, the youngster is hoping to bring his experience to bear on the team's quest for a convincing result against th= eir Sudanese counterparts.

"With my experience of playing in a tougher league like Egypt, I hop= e it will help the team's cause for victory to make the second leg a mere formality."

Afum described the task as tough since only a resounding score line will put them closer to the next stage of the qualifying rounds. The Meteors, bronze medalists at the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games have not qualified for the quadrennial tournament since 2006 in Athens, Greece.
