Akaminko comes clean on survived Car Crash

Ghana defender Jerry Akaminko insists he has never taken alcohol before in his life much less drink and drive.

The 24-year-old survived a dangerous car crash in Koforidua while traveling to Kumasi on Friday evening.

He first crashed into a taxi cab, hit an urvan bus before veering off into the woods.

Luckily no serious injuries were incurred but the Eskishehirspor defender escaped being lynched by the natives of the town where the accident took place for causing the incident.

Akaminko was later whisked away to the Koforidua Central Police Station where he was reportedly detected to be driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

The ex Heart of Lions player was also driving with an overloaded vehicle with six passengers instead of five.

The Ghana international in a sober narration of the unfortunate development however denies he was driving under the influence of alcohol while also taking time to explain the issues.

“I was not driving drunk, in fact I have never taken alcohol before,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“The people in my car at the time were my relatives so it is not as if I went partying with some people and were misbehaving on the road.

“Everybody knows the kind of person I am, I feel bad and sorry about the whole matter but it was purely accidental.

“My club have called to show concern likewise friends and family and I am very much touched by the love and support.

“I want to say sorry to the people involved in the accident and also want to thank God that nothing was serious in the end.”

Akaminko who is part of the provisional Ghana squad for the 2013 Nations Cup has since returned to Accra to be with his family.

His crashed Infiniti car has also been towed to Accra after getting approval from the Koforidua Police.
