Ex-skipper of the Black Stars and former coach of Accra Hearts of Oak, C.K Akonnor says he is confident that the Black Stars will pull a surprise at the upcoming 2015 AFCON in Equatorial Guinea.
According to C.K, the preparations of the Black Stars ahead of the tournament and the players selected by coach Avram Grant have been overly criticized by the media and that Ghanaians are not expecting any incredible performance from the team and that is likely to carry the team all the way to the grand finale.
In an interview with Sportscrusader.com, C.K Akonnor said, “I am confident that the team will surprise a lot of Ghanaians at the tournament.
The qualifiers ahead of the tournament were not that impressive and the players selected by the coach too have been criticized and that makes me feel that the team is likely put all Ghanaians who doubt them to sleep.
Sometimes things like that happen. When you don’t expect a team to perform, that is when they do very well”.
“Let’s just give them the support they will need. That is important for now because whether we like it or not, those players have already been selected by the coach.
The tournament is just days away from now. So I suggest we all support them. But seriously, I believe Ghanaians will be surprised at this year’s tourney”, he added.
Ghana is in Group C with The Terenga Lions of Senegal, the Desert Warriors of Algeria and the Banfana Banfana of South Africa.
