Amankwah and Ofori Quaye for Unity Cup

Accra, June 1, GNA - Amankwah Mireku, former skipper of Accra Hearts of Oak and Peter Ofori Quaye now with Dasoman based Liberty Professionals are among the list of 22 players invited by the Ghana Football Association to commence camping in preparation towards the Unity Cup competition in London.

The team, which is a mixture of players from the national Under 20 team, the Black Satellites and the senior national team, the Black Stars will engage their counterparts from Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and Nigeria in a four-nation tournament.

A statement signed by Emmanuel Gyimah, Deputy General Secretary of the GFA copied to the GNA Sports therefore asked all the selected players to report on Friday, June 3 at the Diamond Hotel in Kumasi. The Tournament being organised by OSMI in London is to commence on June 9 and end on June 12 and is in its second year.

Among the players invited are Patrick Antwi, Bawa Mumuni, Michael Helegbe and Peter Ofori Quaye from Liberty Professionals, Saani Mohammed, Yaw Amankwah Mireku, Anthony Annan and Prince Tagoe from the camp of Accra Hearts of Oak.

The others are Shilla Ilhiasu, Akwasi Bobie Ansah, Iddrisu Yahaya, Habib Mohammed, Prince Antwi, Eric Gawu and Suumaila Nyaya of Kumasi King Fiasal, Aziz Ansah and Douglas Nkrumah from Kumasi Asante Kotoko. The rest are Anafi Emmanuel, Ayitey Andrews, Sherif Dauladi of Gomoa Fetteh Feyenood) Haminu Dramani of Heart of Lions and Andoh Frank of AshantiGold).

According to the organisers of the event, the tournament is to show case local players from the respective countries to the football world, hence the reliance on local based players to feature in the competition.
