Angry Kotoko fans charge on Richard Mpong

Irate Asante Kotoko fans attempted to charge on winger Richard Mpong after Asante Kotoko’s 0-0 draw with Medeama in Kumasi on Wednesday, with some accusing him of being the main cause for the team’s recent poor performances.

Mpong missed a glorious opportunity to win all the three maximum points at stake in last Sunday's "Amegaxoxo" clash against Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports stadium which ended 1-1.

He had a similar opportunity at the stroke of half time to put Asante Kotoko ahead against his former employers Medeama SC only to shoot wide to the dismay of the fans present.

After the game, angry fans charged on Mpong physically until Asante Kotoko management members had to rescue him and lock him up in a room.

Asante Kotoko legend and former management member Sarfo Gyamfi eventually intervened, taking the player to his private car before driving off at top speed.

Other Asante Kotoko players were also subjected to verbal abuse by the fans.

In a related development, footy-ghana.com understands that there was a bust-up between Asante Kotoko midfielder Michael Akuffu and Medeama’s Sampson Cudjoe in the tunnel at half time, which degenerated into a brawl at the end of the game.

Medeama SC player Samuel Nzemaba joined in and soon it was a full blown fight between the Medeama SC players and the security personnel present.

Cudjoe and Nzemaba were eventually arrested and taken to the Central Police Station in Kumasi.
