Berekum Arsenal have been handed GH¢8,000(US$4,000) fined by the Ghana Football Association for crowd troubles.
The disciplinary committee found the club guilty after their Ghana Premier League match against Hearts of Oak on March 19, 2013 in Berekum.
Fans of the club rushed onto the field after Hearts had scored, holding up play for two minutes and after the game, they massed up in front of the referees’ dressing room and held them hostage for 20 minutes.
“From the evidence and the club’s own plea, the committee finds Berekum Arsenal FC guilty as charged. A fine of GH¢8,000 is therefore imposed on the Club for the unwholesome behaviour of its supporters as per GFA Regulation 39(7) (a),” a disciplinary committee ruling stated
The Berekum-based side initially pleading not guilty to two counts of misconduct under GFA regulations 35(2) and (4), but later changed their plea to guilty and asked for leniency.
