The Omanhene of Sunyani traditional area, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II has called it quit as the life patron and spiritual head of B/A United Football Club, following persistent request by Sunyani Traditional Council to resign his post.
A strongly-worded press released dated March 28, 2002 and signed by the senior registrar of the Council, S. S. Mahama, stated that the council made such request which Nana obliged as a result of what he described as the use of disrespectful and insulting language by the section of the media and the public with respect to Nana's position as the life patron of the club This decision has been taken to maintain and protect the prestige, the reverence and the good name of the paramount stool of Sunyani, BOAHENKORKOR Stool" Mahama explained.
The statement added that Nana has resolved not to grant any interview to the press concerning B/A Utd. Again, the statement warned the media and the public to desist from making statements linking Nan; Bosoms Asor Nkrawiri II to the activities of B/A United F/C. "The Sunyani Traditional Council shall deal with any person or group of persons who breach this warning according to the laws of the country," the statement stressed.
The once peaceful club was plunged into state of anarchy and rancour at the end of the 2002 season when sections of the supporters lad by a former player George 'king Arthur accused the Executive chairman of the club Kingsley Osei-Bonsu a.k.a Zico of mismanagement.
In the thick of the events the Board of Directors dissolved Zico a management without reference to Nan. This did not go down well with the Life Patron who accused the members of arrogating onto themselves powers that were not conferred on them by him (Nana), Nana apparently satisfied with the work of the Zico-led management extended Zico's mandate for two more years. This declaration did not end the tussle for power.
The unfolding events prompted Ghana Football Association (GFA) to send a three-man delegation comprising Yaw La Dense, Kofi Naish and C. K. Yeboah on a fact finding mission in an attempt to restore order and pride in the club.
The Interim Management Committee (1MG) put in place by the Sunyani District Chief Executive Mr Ignatius Baffour Awuah went on congress last month and elected George Arthur the Executive chairman of the club even though the deputy *** of the club, Kofi Manu aka Blue Boy had earlier challenged the legality of the MC at court.
The case is still pending. George Arthur has since named his management members and has been seen publicly conducting the business of B/A United but in recent radio interviews, Zico insisted he is the legitimate Executive Chairman of the club.
The latest twist of events is believed to have been provoked by recent newspaper publication by Banjo Senior, on behalf of the founding players of the club claiming that the club does not recognise Nana as the Life Patron.
Meanwhile, B/A United held Herbert Mensah's King Faisal to 1-1 drawn game in a friendly match last Sunday.
