Baba Rahman trains alone ahead of Augsburg departure

Baba Rahman’s move to Chelsea is nearing its completion as the defender trained apart from his Augsburg teammates on Tuesday.

Rahman, 21, featured for Augsburg in their 3-1 cup victory at Elversberg last Friday, but is set to leave the Fuggerstadter after only one season at the club.

Sources told ESPN FC late last month that Chelsea were confident of securing a deal for Rahman, and the Ghana left-back’s agent said last week that personal terms had been agreed.

The defender has yet to complete his transfer to Chelsea, who, according to media reports, have agreed a deal believed to be worth up to €30 million including all add-ons with Augsburg.

On Tuesday, local paper Augsburger Allgemeine reported that Rahman did not train with his teammates but was still at the Augsburg training grounds.

Rahman trained individually behind closed doors, with Augsburg hoping to avoid a last-minute injury which could lead to the transfer collapsing in its final stages.

Rahman joined Augsburg for €2.5m from second tier club Greuther Furth last summer.

The 2. Bundesliga side are set to also profit from the transfer, with Augsburger Allgemeine reporting that they are to receive some 25 percent of the transfer fee.

Augsburg coach Markus Weinzierl declared his pride ahead of Rahman’s impending move, saying: “I would like to continue working with all players, but when you sign someone like Baba from the second division and he’s on Chelsea’s radar 12 months later, it does make the coaching staff proud.”
