Ghana’s continental torchbearers, Berekum Chelsea will know their opponents for the group phase of the CAF Champions League when the draw is conducted on Tuesday, May 15 in Cairo, Egypt.
According to sources picked by GNA Sports from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the draw will be preceded by series of meetings by the Inter-Club Committee to examine and evaluate results from the beginning of the continental matches this year.
Seven Clubs including Berekum Chelsea have so far booked their tickets for the 1/8th round of the CAF Champions League. The other Clubs are holders Esperance and Etoile du Sahel, both from Tunisia; TP Mazembe (DR Congo), ASO Chlef (Algeria), Sunshine Stars (Nigeria) and Zamalek (Egypt).
The final ticket will be decided between seven-time winners, Al-Ahly of Egypt and Stade Malien of Mali after the second leg later on Monday in Cairo. The Malians won the first leg 1-0.
Of the qualified teams, Berekum Chelsea, Sunshine Stars and ASO Chlef are the Clubs to have reached the mini-league stage for the first time.
Meanwhile, Kwesi Nyantakyi, President of the Ghana Football Assciation (GFA) will be one of the guests at the official draw of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.
Nyantakyi, also a member of the CAF Executive Committee will attend the meetings scheduled for 16-17 May, 2012.
The GFA President has since left for the Egyptian capital.**
