Ghana maintains its position as Africa’s best football nation as the Black Stars for the fourth-month running remain at the top of the continent’s ranking table. The May rankings released today by the sport governing body, FIFA, has Ghana clinging onto the 14th position held in April on the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking after picking up some four points from the previous month.
According to FIFA, All six confederations also have the same leading team as last month, with Argentina (1st), Italy (3rd), Ghana (14th), Mexico (17th), Japan (37th) and New Zealand (78th) all continuing to hold that particular honour.
Ghana and Cameroon are the only African presence within the top 20 as European sides dominate.
The latest rankings took into account only 20 games and it still has Argentina leading the pack with Brazil and Italy following in that order.
On the African continent, Ghana sits comfortably at the top, five points more than Cameroon, who are in second. Ivory Coast, Egypt and Nigeria chase the leading two sides.
