Bordeaux want €15m Jordan Ayew

Girondins de Bordeaux are reportedly keen on signing FC Lorient striker Jordan Ayew this summer.

The Ghana striker enjoyed a fine campaign with Les Merlus last season, scoring 12 goals in 31 appearances as Sylvain Ripoll’s side escaped relegation.

He also contributed five assists, and only one other forward in the bottom half of the table—Wissam Ben Yedder of Toulouse—scored more than Jordan.

His form has not gone unnoticed, with Europa League chasers LOSC Lille reportedly keen to bring the younger Ayew brother to the Stade Pierre Mauroy.

However, Herve Renard’s hopes of signing a player he greatly admires may now be frustrated by the news that Bordeaux are also keen on the hitman.

Willy Sagnol’s side may well lose Diego Rolan this summer, and according to Sud-Ouest, they are eyeing the Black Star as a potential replacement.

The Uruguay hitman was in fantastic form last season, scoring 15 goals and winning his maiden international cap. He was one of only nine players in the division to have scored more than Jordan, and his goals helped Bordeaux into sixth in the French table.

His performances attracted interest from Newcastle United.

Steven McClaren is understood to have targeted the former Olympique de Marseille forward as he bids to reconstruct the fallen Magpies following their disastrous slump under John Carver.

Should he move to Bordeaux, Jordan would be able to link up with the powerful hitman Cheick Diabate—who could prove to be an ideal foil for the nimble Ghanaian. Similarly, the prospect of linking up with talented Tunisian playmaker Wahbi Khazri should also appeal.

The 23-year-old Ayew only moved to Lorient a season ago, when he finally left the safety blanket of OM, but his form and the frustrations he has expressed towards his teammates would suggest that a move away may be a very real possibility.

The French source report that it would take a bid of €15 million for Bordeaux or Lille to snare him from Lorient.
