The Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) has launched a 'Thank You Korle-Bu' series to showcase the numerous success stories achieved over its 100 years of service.

The series aims to highlight the positive impact of the hospital's medical care on the lives of countless patients as part of the hospital's centurion celebration.

One of the poignant stories featured in the series is that of a young boy who suffered a severe dental injury while celebrating a goal by Ghanaian footballer Mohammed Kudus during a match against Egypt in the 2023 African Cup of Nations.

The boy, whose jubilation led to a fractured tooth, became a well-known figure due to the incident.

It may be recalled that in a short video online, the mother who was holding a medical report from the Police Hospital said her son got injured while celebrating Mohammed Kudus’ second goal at the 2023 African Cup of Nations.

The Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital played a crucial role in restoring his teeth, correcting a bone fracture, and addressing gum damage.

The boy expressed his gratitude, saying, "Korle-Bu has given me the right medications and the right solution to the problem I was facing. I had a bone fracture, and some of my gums weren’t functioning well, and some of my teeth were not positioned well, but now they are."

Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah, Chief Executive of KBTH, spoke at the unveiling of the 'Thank You Korle-Bu' series on July 23, 2024.

He emphasized the importance of sharing positive narratives about the hospital to counteract negative perceptions.

"It is not always that we have to tell negative stories about Korle-Bu. Even though we are open to criticism when things go wrong, let us also appreciate our own and what we do.

“We have a lot of success stories, even though they come with challenges. I feel the success stories of Korle-Bu need to be told," Dr. Ampomah stated.

The 'Thank You' series features testimonies from various patients who have benefited from the hospital's medical services.

These include stories of survival and recovery from conditions such as diabetes, cervical cancer, accidents, and broken legs, among other health issues.

The initiative not only celebrates the hospital's achievements but also serves as a token of gratitude from the public for the hospital's contributions to healthcare in Ghana.
