‘Bring Akunnor back to Hearts’ - Zakkour

Former Hearts of Oak CEO, Harry Zakkour insists the club’s
management must re-instate dismissed coach, Charles Akunnor for the good of the
club. Z
akkour is adamant that any new coach cannot have the time to
re-build and re-strategise at this stage of the season even after the Phobians
ended a 3-match losing streak with 3-2 win over RTU last Sunday in their first
game post-Akunnor.
The former national team captain was given the boot after
collecting a measly 4 points from 15 available for the former champions who are
desperate to end a 4-year trophy drought. Hitherto assistant Ben Adjei has been
placed in temporary charge until a substantive appointment is effected and
supervised the injury time win over RTU.
But even as reports persist that the club are close to
appointing former Ashgold coach, David Duncan to the post full time, Zakkour
under whose leadership Hearts achieved their greatest feats including winning
the CAF Champions’ League in 2000, is demanding Akunnor’s return to the helm of
the Accra giants.
“I’m calling on my good friends in the management to consider
re-instating C.K. Akunnor because he’s been in charge for this long, this is
his team,” Mr. Zakkour told Joy FM.
The ‘Champion Chairman’ added: “They should appoint two new
coaches or bring C.K. back to work with Ben Adjei because one coach can’t do the
job. I brought (Jones) Attuquayefio and I also brought Osam Duodu to help him,
one coach can’t do the job. It’s the best advice I can give the club.”
