Burkard Ziese for black stars ?

The merry go-round for a coach to steer the technical ship of the Black Stars is not over yet. The French connection that most analysts thought would be the ultimate factor in contracting a coach is slipping away. Sources at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) insist no deal has been brokered between the local soccer governing body and French coach Claude Le Roy.

In fact no negotiations have even begun with the former brainchild of two world cup qualifications for Cameroon. Le Roy is actually contracted to several football associations as a consultant, which seems to be his present occupation. Efforts by X-files to trace Le Roy have so far proved futile.

He is not in France and certainly not operating in Africa. But it is possible that the initial target of the FA is temporarily out of job at least un-occupied with a pressing engagement. So much for Le Roy, I suppose I have beaten around the other option or who is he?

Burkard Ziese is taking it easy at the moment. He was at the African Cup of Nations in Mali but not as coach of any of the competing teams. The chairman of the Football Association Ben Koufie has made it clear that Ghana will be going for a foreign coach.

But perhaps the best endorsement for a foreign coach has come from the Minister for Youth and Sports, Edward Osei Kwaku who has assured the FA of the ministry’s full support in its attempt to contract a top-notch coach for the senior national team.

It’s all positive talk about positive change in Ghana football but at what price? In simple terms, how much will it cost Ghana? At the moment, it looks like the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the FA would have to join forces in looking for at least $20,000 a month for the new coach.
