Burkhard Ziese's Contract Terminated

... He's Not Surprised
...Ghana does Not have Quality players - he says

Black Stars Coach Burkhard Ziese has confirmed the termination of his contract by the Ghana Football Association. The abrogation is in accordance with clause 10 of the German’s contract with the soccer controlling body, which stipulates that the FA gives him a month’s notice before dispensing with his services. The German’s dismissal takes effect from the 5th of September.

Pressure has been mounting on the FA to fire Burkhard after he failed to qualify the national team for the 2004 African Cup of Nations and presided over a string of poor results.

Mr. Ziese told JoyOnline that the abrogation of the contract did not surprise him.

Burkhard says Ghana did not qualify for the Cup of Nations because “ they (Ghana) didn’t have quality players” and that contributed to the Black Stars inability to qualify for the African Cup of Nations.

The German believes that since the domestic league was on, getting quality players was difficult a situation which led to him calling up foreign-based players into the national team.

According to the German “ the Cup of Nations was not part of my contract”.

Touching on his contract, the German agreed that even though the Cup of Nations was not part of his contract he should have qualified the team saying, “qualification to the World Cup was part of my contract”.
