C.K Akonnor to players: Seek God

Former Black Stars captain C.K. Akonnor has advised young professional footballers to seek God and listen to advise for a secure future.

Sharing his life with Hussein Hassan on Sports Xtra on Viasat 1, the former VfL Wolfsburg midfielder said: “as a young successful footballer you will meet people and think they like you but they don’t like you”.

“It could be women, it could be men. Sometimes you don’t listen because you think you are on top of the world but hopefully, the coming generation will listen,” he added.

He said footballers who refuse to take advice see the side effect. He added it was very important that they got to know God.

Akonnor became captain of the national team after the retirement of Abedi Pele. He made 41 international appearances for Ghana and scored 12 goals.

At club level, he played in Germany for Fortuna Köln, VfL Wolfsburg, and SpVgg Unterhaching.

After retirement, C.K Akonnor was named the head coach for Sekondi Eleven Wise, where he worked with former national teammate Nii Odartey Lamptey as his assistant in 2009.

He has also coached Accra Hearts of Oak
