C/R referees threaten to boycott Division Two matches

Cape Coast, Nov.21, GNA - The Central Region branch of the Ghana Referees Association, has threatened to boycott the region's second division league matches if officials and supporters of football clubs continue to misconduct themselves during league matches.

Mr Percy Aryee, acting chairman of the association issued the threat at a consultative meeting of second division clubs organised by the regional football association at the Cape Coast sports stadium on Thursday.

The meeting was to usher in the second round of the league, which commences on Sunday, November 30.

He cited a number of instances when referees and other match officials had been intimidated and manhandled by club officials and supporters and warned that if such behaviour was not stopped, "they will advise themselves".

Earlier Mr Thomas Doe, the regional chairman, told the meeting that the aim of organising sporting activities, is to promote friendship, peace and harmony.

In response to an appeal made by the clubs for adequate security Mr Doe promised to liaise with regional the regional police command and the district security council for adequate security during matches.
