CAF fines Hearts 5, 000 dollars

Accra, March 27, GNA - The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has fined Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club 5,000 dollars for the misconduct of some of their players in the first leg game of the CAF Champions League match against St George of Ethiopia two weeks ago. In the first leg match, five players of Hearts, Anthony Annan, Charles Vardis, Amankwah Mireku, Moses Andoh and Laud Quartey were cautioned for either unsporting behaviour, foul play, holding an opponent's shirt or part of his body.

Mr Ashford Tettey-Oku, Administrative Manager of Hearts in press statement copied to the GNA Sports said that the Club has adopted an educational policy aimed at teaching the players aspects of the laws of the game and the disciplinary codes to reduce the occurrence of the incident in future.

The fine is in accordance to Article 122, which states that, "when four players are cautioned during a match, three players sent off during one match or when several players together threaten or show force against a match official" shall be sanctioned by a maximum fine of 5,000 dollars".

The statement said the Club has already taken the players through a first phase of the policy of education, two weeks ago under the tutelage of Mr S.K Antwi, Deputy National Referees Instructor at their camping base in Winneba.

Hearts will go into battle on Saturday in an effort to overturn the 4-0 deficit suffered at the hands of the Ethiopians in the first leg to keep their dreams of advancing to the next stage of the competition on course.
