Christian Atsu relishes Nations Cup prospects

Christian Atsu is relishing his chances at next year’s African Cup of Nations in South Africa.

The 20-year-old exciting left winger played an influential role for the Black Stars as they secured their 19th qualification to the Cup of Nations at the expense of Malawi.

The Porto whiz kid is the fans favourite after churning out impressive performances for the team since he got his big breakthrough during a 2014 World Cup qualifier against Lesotho in Kumasi.

Atsu has been touted as the new big thing to happen to Ghana football and will be one of the key players for the team at the continental mundial in South Africa early next year.

He says he will be relishing his prospect in the tournaments.

“I have always been watching the Africa Cup of Nations and it has been my dream to play at the Nations Cup,”Atsu said

“I am going back to Porto to work hard and fight for a position in the team and also to prepare myself for the tournament.

“It won’t be easy an task for me. As a young player it has not been easy for me at Porto to start games, but by God’s grace I have been coming on in the second half and then doing well. I will go back there and continue with what I’m doing.

The Rio Ave loanee admitted playing for the West African giants has raised his stocks.

“Playing in the Black Stars has really improved my profile. It isn’t easy to play in the national team.

“Porto were hoping for this opportunity to come and by God’s grace I had the chance and now I am with the team and I’m very happy.

“Also playing in the Nations Cup will also add a lot to my profile. I will give thanks to Ghanaians for their support and prayers.

“They should keep supporting us and we’ll make them proud.”
