COACH MEDIC OUT FOR URGENT MEDICAL TREATMENT
The management of Ashantigold regrets to announce that Head Coach, Momcilo Medic flew to his home country yesterday hours after doctors confirmed a life-threatening ailment that required urgent medical treatment.
Medic left aboard a Lufthansa flight for his native Serbia following a series of medical tests in Accra necessitated by a nagging calf injury, which had refused to heal for months.
Doctors described the coach¹s ailment, as grave fearing he may face potential amputation of the leg if he did not receive the right treatment.
Following hurried consultations with management, the coach, doctors and his family, it was agreed that he should be allowed to travel immediately to Serbia where a top doctor has agreed to operate on him upon arrival.
Coming on the eve of Ashantigold¹s friendly match against Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Len Clay stadium and subsequently next Wednesday¹s league match with the same side at the Baba Yara stadium this news has been hard-hitting.
Acting Technical Director Ralf Zumdick also ended his tenure on Friday and departed Accra on the same day aboard a KLM flight.
Management wishes to assure all supporters and club sympathisers that plans are in place to find a stopgap replacement for Coach Medic.
Assistant coach, Augustine Evans Addotey will be in charge of subsequent matches until a replacement coach is found.
The medical fortunes of Coach Medic will meanwhile be monitored closely to ascertain whether he will be able to return to Ghana. The current prognosis indicates that post-surgery recuperation could take at least two months.
Medic has already become an integral part of the Ashantigold project and we will offer him the need support to ensure that he undergoes the best treatment possible.
