Coach Quaye’s Nostalgia, His Future

Former assistant coach of Hearts of Oak Mr. Sam Bortey Quaye has looked back with nostalgic memories of his days with the club and has crossed his heart with the belief that, the phobians would rise to the occasion by overcoming their seemingly hydra-headed problems, if indeed stakeholders put up a concerted effort at rescuing the situation.

Now head coach of SHARK FC a sister club to the much more pronounced PUREJOY FC, coach Quaye is under no illusions whatsoever that, the centenary continental champions will topple the mountainous problems that confront them as 100 years approach in November.

Speaking to THE SUN in Accra last week, the coach recalled some great times he lived under the phobia banner, during which he imbibed useful lessons under coaches Jones Attuquayefio and Herbert Addo, even though Hearts mistreated him for years when even ball boys were paid much better than he was. “But in life we need to let negative things go past us and that is why I do not hold a grudge against Hearts,” the coach told THE SUN.

He referred to his days at the then Goldfields where coaches Okoe Aryee and Hans Van der Pluym taught him the rudiments of spying on opposing teams and developing counter strategies to great effect. “This came in handy when the celebrated Mr. Attuquayefio sent me to Kumasi to spy on Asante Kotoko, in that memorable CAF Confederation Cup second leg final when Charles Taylor was at his peak,” an elated coach Quaye told THE SUN.

Today, having been pushed over to Shark FC from the well-known PUREJOY COACH Quaye says he is working hard together with his assistant, coach Misadzi, to catapult the team to the limelight its investments deserves.

To this end he has scouted half a dozen players to help catapult his dream into reality. These are Adjei Kormiete and Emmanuel Nettey all strikers from King Solomon, Justice Kaka also from Rainbow, midfielders Charles Darko and George Cobbinah from Tema All Stars as well as goalie Adjei Annan.

Coach Quaye now says, he has set his eyes on landing a job with any of the national teams if the powers-that-be would be gracious enough to look his way.
