Ghana side Medeama will be heading to Zambia well positioned to advance in the Caf Confederation Cup after beating Zesco 2-0 on Sunday.
Nathaniel Asamoah and Michael Helegbe scored in each half to hand Medeama the vital win ahead of the second leg.
Asamoah put the Mauves ahead in the 9th minute with a fine curling shot to beat Lameck Nyangu in goal for Zesco.
Zesco came close to equalising in the 47th minute when substitute Kabwe Chileshe’s shot on the near post was saved on the line by Tagoe Muntari.
Helegbe doubled their lead from the spot after Theophilus Anobaah had been fouled in the box with just about nine minutes to end proceedings.
The three-time Zambia champions must beat Medeama 3-0 this weekend at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola to ensure their passage to the next stage of the tournament.
